Here are important things to know as you plan for workers to work from home - smadatek

How to connect to the office network remotely

Make sure you use a VPN to access the network and other computer/server resources inside the office. Here are a couple of things to be aware of:

  1. DO NOT use any ‘port forwarding’ or work-around remote access.
  2. When using a VPN you MUST understand that a VPN connection links any home PC or laptop to your network as soon as it connects. If there is anything nasty like cryptolocker, ransomware or any other malicious program present on a home PC or laptop connected via VPN, that malicious program can spread immediately into the business network.
  3. I strongly recommend using a company laptop for VPN remote access. If this is not possible, make sure employees working from home run Malwarebytes and Rkill to scan their home PC or laptop before setting up and establishing the VPN connection. Safe downloads of those apps are at these locations:

Keeping your computers and laptops clean and sanitized.

Here is a great article on how to keep your computer and laptop clean without damaging the screen, ports and keyboard:

Ideas to keep interoffice communications operational:

  1. Zoom.us is a great FREE tool you can use for both video and telephone conference calls. It’s easy to sign up and the first 45min (per session) are free. You can also pay for the monthly service and cancel at any time. https://zoom.us/
  2. Slack is another great tool and we use it everyday. This is more of a chat or instant messaging service.  Easy to set up and use. https://slack.com/
  3. If you are a current customer, our team is on standby for this and will support you with two main objectives: keep your network secure and your workforce as productive as possible.

If you have any questions about setting up remote workers to be secure and productive, please reach out to Eric or me.

Lastly, I wish everyone great health during these uncertain and scary times.
